About

Who we are

An association, a mosque and a student dormitory, on one block in Brooklyn. Between them they have served this community since 1980.

United American Muslim Association

Founded in the late 1970s by Turkish-American families in Brooklyn and officially established in 1980, UAMA began with seven founding families and has since evolved into a multicultural community representing Muslims from diverse backgrounds.

It is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides religious, educational, and social services to both its members and the broader community. UAMA serves communities in countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, Haiti, Brazil, and Panama, and is engaged in charitable work such as drilling water wells, providing education to students, and distributing food aid to those in need.

Fatih Mosque

As the first branch of UAMA, Fatih Mosque has served a diverse Muslim community for many years at 5911 8th Avenue. The mosque is open for all five daily prayers and for Jumu’ah, with the khutbah given in English and Turkish.

Along with leading daily and Eid prayers, the mosque hosts weddings and nikah ceremonies, community events, Ramadan sahur and iftar programs, and Qurbani in its season. It also runs a summer camp and a kindergarten for children.

Fatih Muslim Dormitory

Beside the mosque stands Fatih Muslim Dormitory, established by UAMA and the Fatih Mosque community. The building previously served middle and high school students; today it is a university dormitory, welcoming young men coming to study in America.

It offers a safe, welcoming and affordable home for students looking for Islamic student housing in New York, a short ride from LIU Brooklyn, NYU, Pace, Baruch and The New School.
