In Islam, the family holds immense value as it not only ensures the continuation of generations but also provides a foundation for mutual support, fostering success and harmony among its members.
“O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry should do so, as it helps lower the gaze and guard one’s modesty.”
Our experienced imams officiate the Nikah in the presence of the couple’s families and wedding witnesses, ensuring that all aspects align with Islamic traditions. Whether you want a quiet ceremony for ten people or a full wedding for a hundred, everything happens under one roof — the imam, the halls and the kitchen are all ours.
Three ways to celebrate
Choose your ceremony
Every option includes the imam and the nikah itself. The difference is the room, the number of guests and how long you stay. Food is priced per guest, on top of the room.
Option one
Nikah at the office
An intimate ceremony for the couple, their families and the witnesses.
The donation supports the services and needs of our mosque.
Request this optionOption two
Nikah at the masjid
The ceremony held in the main prayer hall, beneath the tilework and the chandeliers.
Food is added per guest: refreshments at $15, if you would like them. Full meals are served only in the dining halls.
Men sit at the front and women behind, with a curtain between them if you wish.
Request this optionOption three
Wedding
The nikah in the masjid, then the dining halls and a meal prepared by our own kitchen.
Food is added per guest: the meal at $50 (minimum 10), or refreshments at $15.
In one hall the family sits together; with both halls, women and men have their own rooms.

You will speak to the imam before you pay anything
Tell us roughly when and which option you have in mind. There is no long lead time — couples have arranged a ceremony with three days’ notice.
The same day, or the next day at the latest. You settle the details with him directly.
Arranged after that conversation — nothing is paid on the website. The balance is due before the program.
Once the arrangements are finalized with the imam, the deposit is not refunded if the reservation is cancelled — except in the case of illness or a death in the family. The wedding’s meal service is arranged for a minimum of 10 guests.
Before the ceremony
Your marriage license is issued by the city, not by the mosque. Start there.
With that document in hand, come to Fatih Mosque and our imam performs the religious ceremony.
After the ceremony our administration signs the documents and submits them back to the city.
The official marriage certificate is delivered to your address roughly 15 days later.
The religious ceremony does not replace the civil one — the license has to exist first.
What to bring
Issued by the city clerk’s office.
For the bride, the groom and both witnesses.
Either two men, or one man and two women.
The wedding meal
After the ceremony, the dining halls are set up for your guests — 50 seats in the women’s hall and 50 in the men’s, up to 100 guests in all. The meal is cooked and served by the mosque, for a minimum of 10 guests.
Standard menu. $50 per guest, added to the hall rent.
Water and cold drinks, a dessert, nuts, and tea if your guests would like it. Refreshments can be served in the masjid after a nikah, or in the halls.
Our dining halls
Two separate halls, one for women and one for men. The women’s hall is on the second floor, next to the women’s gallery, and seats 50. The men’s hall is by the masjid exit and also seats 50. A smaller wedding of up to 50 can use one hall, with the family seated together. The halls are used for weddings; a nikah in the office or in the masjid does not include them.

The ceremony opens with Quran recitation.
Islamic hymns and supplications for the couple.
A full meal served to your guests by the mosque, at $50 per guest.
Decoration
Decoration is optional and costs $500. It can be arranged for the ceremony in the masjid or for the wedding in the halls.
Questions
Common questions about a nikah here
What do we need to bring on the day?
The marriage license, photo ID for both of you, and two witnesses. Everything else is arranged in advance.
Do you issue the marriage license?
No. In New York the license is a civil matter, separate from the religious ceremony, and you apply for it yourselves at a City Clerk’s office before the day. The imam performs the nikah, we sign the license and file it, and your certificate arrives by mail from the city.
What does a nikah cost?
The room and the food are priced separately. For the room and the ceremony: $400 in the mosque office, $800 in the masjid, and for a wedding $1,200 in one hall for up to 50 guests or $1,500 in both halls for up to 100, with the nikah included. Food is added per guest: $50 for the meal (minimum 10) or $15 for refreshments. Decoration is an optional $500.
How many guests can you seat?
Up to 10 in the office and up to 100 in the masjid. For a wedding, one hall seats up to 50; with both halls, the women’s hall and the men’s hall seat 50 each.
How long can we stay?
A nikah in the office or in the masjid is up to one hour. A wedding is up to four hours, and it is planned around the prayer times.
Can we serve food in the masjid?
Light refreshments, yes — water and cold drinks, a dessert, nuts, and tea, at $15 per guest. To keep the prayer hall clean for worship, full meals are served only in the dining halls.
Can we use just one hall?
Yes, for up to 50 guests, if your family would like to sit together in one room. The room is $1,200 instead of $1,500 for both halls; the meal is $50 per guest either way.
Can a curtain be drawn between men and women?
Yes. When men and women attend in the same hall or in the masjid, a curtain can be drawn between them on request.
How far ahead should we ask?
Couples have arranged a ceremony with three days’ notice, and you can ask up to a year ahead. Weekends fill first, especially in the summer, so it is worth asking early even if nothing else is settled.
Is anything charged on the website?
No. Sending the form costs nothing. One of our imams calls you to go through the details, and a 20% deposit after that call is what confirms the date.
Where is the mosque?
Fatih Mosque is at 5911 8th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220. The entrance is on 60th Street, around the corner from the 8th Avenue address.
